CARAM Cambodia works to improve the health and quality of life of people in Cambodia by reducing the impact of HIV and AIDS, especially amongst the most vulnerable population groups. CARAM Cambodia works as a partner of KHANA in the“Sustainable Action Against HIV and AIDS in Community” (SAHACOM) programme, funded by USAID. The SAHACOM program is in the final of five years of operation.

 CARAM Cambodia’s role in the programme is to “Improve the uptake of innovative and targeted HIV prevention interventions and services by ‘most at risk populations’”. CARAM Cambodia staff are tasked with work with Entertainment Workers in Phnom Penh and focus on improving access to services,increasing knowledge about HIV and other related behaviour change that will reduce their vulnerability.

 In real terms, this means conducting outreach sessions with Entertainment Workers at their place of work and other ‘hotspots’. This outreach involves educating them on HIV/AIDS, STIs, family planning and reproductive health issues. These outreach sessions are led by entertainment workers who have been recruited as volunteers in the programme. Project Officers provide voluntary testing with pre and post counselling and case management for people living with HIV.

 CARAM Cambodia also operates a drop-in vocational training skills centre for Entertainment Workers seeking new professions. The centre provides training on tailoring, make-up artistry and hairdressing. The drop-in centre also provides a place where entertainment workers can meet and provide peer support in a safe environment.

 In 2014, CARAM Cambodia aims to;

·        Reach 1323 Entertainment Workers monthly

·        Engage 13509 entertainment workers and their partners in 1 on 1 ‘no condom, no sex’ education sessions

·        Provide 1701 HIV and STI tests and referrals to  health services

·        Train 16 outreach workers to provide case management for people living with HIV
